Week In Review

We are off to a fantastic start in 2nd grade. Below you will find some beginning of the year information, if you have any questions please let me know!

Class Newsletters

Newsletters come home each week in Friday Folders. Use our newsletter as a talking point to learn more about what your child did at school that week. You can also view our newsletters on the classroom blog by clicking here.

Friday Folders

Friday Folders will begin coming home tonight. You will notice a communication log inside your child's folder. I will use this to send home notes and share more about your child's learning and behavior with you. Please sign and have your child return to school on Mondays.

Book Buddy & Reading Homework

Your child should have started bringing home his/her Book Buddy bag this week. The book that is sent home is the book your child should use during homework time. After the 20 minutes of required reading is done your child may choose to read a "vacation" book (something that is not on their level). As always, feel free to read on the weekends! You can also jot those minutes down on the homework sheet to have them count towards our class goal.

Curriculum Night

If you weren't able to attend curriculum night I have sent your packet home. If anyone has any questions about the information that came home please let me know, I'd be happy to answer them for you!

Welcome Back!

Wow! I can't believe it's almost time to get back to school. I am so excited to meet my new class, I know we are going to have a fantastic year in second grade.

Here's a little bit about me! This will be my 2nd year teaching at Barretts and my 2nd year teaching 2nd grade. Before I came to Barretts I taught 4th grade at the Lake of the Ozarks. I've had a very busy summer, I got engaged and I bought a house! I love to do crafts and to make things so I've been working hard on decorations for my new house and projects for my wedding. My fiancĂ© and I are getting married over Spring Break this year. I love being a teacher and I love working with technology. I'll be finishing up my Master's in Educational Technology this December.

Parents, take some time to get to know how technology will be used in your child's class this year. If you need help setting anything up, please don't hesitate to ask! I'd be happy to help!

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone at Sneak a Peek on August 7th. See you soon!

Butterfly House Field Trip

We had an awesome time at the Butterfly House on May 1st, 2015.

We spent some time in the classroom learning about all the stages of a butterfly's life. We got to explore real life examples of a butterfly in each stage. We learned about the anatomy of a butterfly and what changes happen when the caterpillar goes into the chrysalis.

After our learning time in the classroom we explored the Butterfly Conservatory. We used our butterfly guide to search for different kinds of butterflies.

After the conservatory we enjoyed our lunch underneath the pavilion.

And finally we got some play time on the play ground!
